Jerusalem, 28 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Change Bloc is considering appointing Yair Lapid as Knesset speaker in two weeks, Israeli media reported Wednesday night. Lapid, one of the bloc’s leading figures, is No. 2 on the Beyachad (Together) party list headed by Naftali Bennett and is not seeking the premiership.
No decision has been made, and other candidates under consideration include Oded Forer of Yisrael Beytenu, Elazar Stern or Orit Farkash of the Yashar party, and Efrat Rayten of the Democrats.
Change Bloc officials estimate that Arab parties would demand mainly symbolic concessions in exchange for replacing current Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, potentially allowing the move to proceed soon. The bloc would then discuss establishing a state commission of inquiry into the October 7 failures and repealing the judicial reform laws.
