Jerusalem, 15 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Growing mistrust splits the Israeli opposition bloc as tactical and ideological rifts deepen ahead of the October 27 election.
Recent friction peaked after Yisrael Beiteinu’s Oded Forer revealed that a joint declaration to form a coalition strictly with Zionist parties collapsed.
Representatives from Gadi Eisenkot’s Yeshar! and Yair Golan’s Democrats rejected the wording, pushing instead for a “Servers’ Coalition” mandate. This move fueled internal fears of a covert backdoor alliance with Mansour Abbas’s Ra’am party.
Further compounding the panic, Eisenkot proposed forming a narrow, minority government of 58–59 seats to immediately oust Benjamin Netanyahu after the election. However, Avigdor Liberman flatly rejected this strategy, refusing to back any minority setup.
Leaders like Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett now face a fragile front, threatened by intense rivalries over leadership and deep-seated fears that right-wing candidates within their own ranks could defect post-election.
