Jerusalem, 27 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Ofer Winter, chairman of the new Amcha Yisrael party and a retired brigadier general, announced Thursday that his party will recommend only Benjamin Netanyahu for prime minister.
“We are in the right-wing camp. The leader of the right-wing camp is Netanyahu, and he is the only person we will recommend,” he said.
At the same time, Winter stressed the party’s independence: “We don’t work for anyone, only for the people of Israel. We will not dance to anyone’s tune.”
The statement came two days after the party’s launch, following warnings from Likud and other right-wing figures that voting for Winter could “waste votes” and split the right-wing bloc.
Amcha Yisrael has polled at 6 to 8 seats, drawing mainly from Likud and Religious Zionist voters. Winter’s endorsement appears aimed at reassuring right-wing voters.
