Jerusalem, 21 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s education system will observe National Memorial Day on Thursday, October 22, 2026, marking 31 years since the assassination of Prime Minister and Defense Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
Schools, youth movements, and local municipalities nationwide are hosting memorial ceremonies, workshops, and student-led discussion panels exploring Rabin’s political legacy and the democratic impact of his 1995 murder.
Operating under this year’s official theme, “In Times of Controversy—Arguing Responsibly,” educational programming focuses heavily on democratic principles, pluralism, and mitigating societal incitement.
The national commemorations officially opened Wednesday evening with a state youth rally at the Yitzhak Rabin Center in Tel Aviv, attended by Education Ministry leadership, national youth councils, and the late leader’s family.
