Jerusalem, 12 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Likud MK Nissim Vaturi is facing criticism after a deadly explosion at the Ramim Ridge in northern Israel killed a 14-year-old yeshiva high school student and injured 23 others.

The blast was caused by a Hezbollah cluster bomb that remained in the area. Critics pointed to Vaturi’s subcommittee on mine and unexploded ordnance clearance, which reportedly held only two meetings during the current Knesset’s four-year term.

Vaturi rejected the criticism, arguing that formal committee sessions do not reflect the full scope of his work. He said he had met with the national mine-clearance authority, conducted three tours of minefields, and worked directly with professionals.

Vaturi also cited a project to clear mines from Canada Park, for which he secured 12 million shekels ($4 million), saying implementation would begin soon.
