Jerusalem, 3 November, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s National Planning and Building Council on Tuesday approved advancing an amendment to National Outline Plan 18, designed to remove bureaucratic obstacles and accelerate the installation of fast electric-vehicle charging stations at existing and new gas stations nationwide.
The proposal, which requires government approval, would allow up to 100 square meters of additional construction for electrical rooms, transformers, and related infrastructure at stations offering at least five fast-charging points. Similar facilities could also be built in enclosed areas at highway interchanges.
The reform would exempt charging-only projects from submitting hydrological-environmental assessments and permit covered waiting areas for drivers.
The proposal permitting large-scale energy storage facilities at gas stations has only been advanced for public review and remains at an earlier planning stage. The changes have not yet received final government approval and are not yet in force.
