Jerusalem, 11 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Teva Pharmaceuticals CEO Richard Francis estimates the company’s annual sales potential for its schizophrenia treatments at $1.5 billion to $2 billion, following the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of its new drug, WELTRUZA.
The monthly subcutaneous injection, based on olanzapine, is designed to eliminate the need for daily pills and mandatory medical observation after administration, addressing major challenges with treatment adherence. The sales target combines WELTRUZA with Teva’s existing long-acting injectable schizophrenia treatment, UZEDY, which uses risperidone. The two products target patients transitioning from different oral medications and are expected to complement rather than directly compete with each other.
Teva plans to begin the US launch within weeks, although significant revenues are expected only in the second half of 2027, as insurance coverage and hospital adoption take time.
The approval advances Teva’s strategy of expanding innovative, higher-value medicines.
