Jerusalem, 4 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — A man who recently returned to Israel from the Democratic Republic of Congo has been hospitalized in isolation at Sheba Medical Center amid suspected Ebola infection.

Meanwhile, an epidemiological investigation is underway to identify people who came into contact with him. The Health Ministry clarified that anyone who has not been contacted by the ministry does not need to take any action.

The case comes as the Bundibugyo Ebola Outbreak in Congo continues to spread. The World Health Organization reported nearly 7,900 confirmed cases and 3,799 deaths in Congo as of September 23.

The Israeli man’s hospitalization is precautionary, and no Ebola diagnosis has been confirmed. Israeli health authorities have maintained heightened surveillance for travelers returning from affected areas. The current outbreak involves the Bundibugyo strain, for which there is no licensed vaccine or specific antiviral treatment.
