Jerusalem, 26 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli police have arrested a suspected burglar whose unfinished sandwich provided the crucial evidence needed to identify him.
An indictment has now been filed against the suspect, who allegedly broke into a business at the Nir Banim gas station near Kiryat Malachi and stole equipment, valuables, and the owner’s vehicle.
The investigation began about a month ago, after police received a report of the break-in. Investigators and forensic specialists from the Lachish District collected evidence at the scene, including the sandwich the suspect had bitten into and abandoned.
Lab DNA testing established the suspect’s identity, allowing police to track him down and arrest him for questioning. His detention was extended, and prosecutors have filed charges and requested that he remain in custody until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
