Jerusalem, 26 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — One day before Israel’s 26th Knesset election, Democrats chairman Yair Golan attacked opposition colleague Gadi Eisenkot’s campaign that urges voters to support the largest party.
In a post on X, Golan called the strategy a “dangerous lie” designed to weaken the Democrats. He argued that Israel’s parliamentary system depends on winning a majority for a political bloc, not simply making one party the largest, and said a similar strategy led by Yair Lapid in the previous election had ended in defeat.
Golan appealed directly to Eisenkot: “Let’s work together, not against each other. We knew how to protect Israel in uniform. Let’s do it now, too.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged voters Sunday night to support Likud, warning that in a 60-60 deadlock, even a slight advantage for the left could lead President Isaac Herzog to task a left-wing candidate with forming a government.
