Jerusalem, 9 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Retired Brig. Gen. Ofer Winter was verbally attacked in Bnei Brak Thursday night by Jerusalem Faction Haredi extremists who reportedly shouted insults such as “Nazi” and “dog,” and yelled, “Get out of here,” Israeli media reported.

Winter, a former senior combat commander who has been associated with calls for broader Haredi military service, has become a prominent figure in the national debate over conscription and shared responsibility for Israel’s security.

During the confrontation, police officers intervened to separate the sides. Winter responded angrily, accusing the protesters of dishonoring the Torah and challenging them over their opposition to his visit.

Winter had traveled to Bnei Brak to speak with Haredi men considering military service to discuss his proposed legislation, linking benefits to military service.
