Jerusalem, 3 November, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday strongly condemned opposition leaders for attempting to form a coalition with Haredi parties following the elections for the 26th Knesset. Netanyahu accused the opposition bloc, including Gadi Eisenkot, Naftali Bennett, Yair Lapid, and Avigdor Liberman, of pure political opportunism regarding the Haredi draft issue.
“The hypocrisy screams to high heaven,” Netanyahu stated. He pointed out that after four years of relentless criticism against the Haredi community, the opposition is now shifting its tone entirely. He argued that their previous condemnation of a “draft evasion law” has suddenly transformed into a willingness to negotiate “all for the Left’s lust for power.”
Netanyahu maintained that only Likud and the right-wing bloc can genuinely resolve the Torah scholars’ status.
Following his statement, the Shas party announced it would recommend Netanyahu to the president for forming the government.
