Jerusalem, 26 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Liberman on Monday demanded an immediate criminal investigation into Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of treason over alleged efforts to provoke a confrontation with Iran ahead of Tuesday’s election.

In a letter to Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara, Liberman claimed Netanyahu had pressured security chiefs over the past month to take steps that could trigger a miscalculation with Iran. The demand followed reports of an unprecedented clash between Netanyahu and military leadership over a possible rapid operation against Iran, allegedly blocked by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.

“Dragging Israel into a war on the eve of elections, while being willing to sacrifice IDF soldiers out of fear of losing the election, is treason,” Liberman declared.

The prime minister denies that any confrontation took place between himself and Zamir, claiming that “someone is trying to obscure the IDF chief of staff’s remarks about Iran.”
