Jerusalem, 29 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Water Authority and national water company Mekorot have launched a strategic infrastructure program to secure long-term water supplies for the arid Arava region through 2050 and beyond.
The multi-phase plan centers on constructing a new regional pipeline over the next three years to connect the Central Arava directly to the national water grid.
To resolve immediate shortages, authorities are executing new local drilling operations while expanding desalination capacity in Eilat using environmentally specialized engineering to protect the Gulf of Eilat’s marine ecosystem.
Officials confirmed the upgraded infrastructure aims to stabilize water delivery for desert agriculture, support municipal development, and build climate resilience across southern Israel.
