Jerusalem, 4 November, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Environmental Protection has levied a fine of 842,720 NIS (approximately $226,000 USD) against transit operator Egged for persistent fleet idling violations under the Clean Air Law.
Environmental inspectors documented numerous instances at bus terminals where drivers left engines running for over ten minutes while parked. Despite receiving a warning notice, follow-up inspections revealed recurring offenses across seven additional sites. Regulators emphasized that unnecessary idling releases harmful urban emissions, even from modern Euro 6 standard vehicles.
While the ministry granted a standard 20 percent statutory reduction due to the absence of prior infractions, it rejected further leniency requests, reiterating its commitment to enforcing strict air quality standards across public transport networks.
