Jerusalem, 4 November, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s 26th Knesset elections involved approximately NIS 100 million ($31 million).

According to reports, intelligence points to extensive foreign funding, potentially involving Qatar, reaching thousands of people or more. However, the Shin Bet emphasized that additional intelligence gathering and investigative work are needed to establish the evidence with a high degree of certainty.

The assessment has exposed sharp disagreements within the security agency. A senior division chief involved in the investigation and two other senior officials reportedly argued that the scope of the suspicions was limited and questioned whether the evidence established links between foreign money and illegal election activity.

Law enforcement officials have also previously described the investigation as a limited case unlikely to affect the election results.
