Jerusalem, 25 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israel Prison Service (IPS) inaugurated its first-ever residential project for prison security personnel on Sunday in Beersheba’s Park neighborhood.

Under the NEST project, 58 male and female prison guards who met the organization’s eligibility criteria will receive keys to their new apartments in the coming days.

The initiative aims to help personnel establish permanent homes, integrate into the local community, and strengthen the security services’ presence in the Negev.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by IPS Commissioner Kobi Yaakobi, Beersheba Mayor Rubik Danilovich, the National Security Ministry’s director-general, and senior prison service officials.

Yaakobi said the project reflects the organization’s commitment to supporting those on the front lines, emphasizing that the service must also care for its personnel.

Danilovich welcomed the guards to the city, calling their decision to settle in the Negev a Zionist statement.

The IPS plans to expand housing solutions nationwide.
