Israeli Military Launches Surprise Drill Ahead of High Holidays

By Ehud Amiton • September 6, 2026

Jerusalem, 6 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israeli Military launched a surprise readiness exercise Sunday to test its ability to respond to a sudden, large-scale attack ahead of the upcoming High Holidays and anniversary of Hamas’ October 7 attack.

The IDF said increased movement of troops and aircraft would be visible across Israel during the drill, but stressed that there was no indication of a security incident.

The High Holidays begin with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which starts at sundown on Sept. 11.

October 7 marks the third anniversary of Hamas’ attack on southern Israel, when at least 1,200 people were killed, and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage.
