IDF Prepares to Reduce Forces in Lebanon after Destroying Ali al-Taher Ridge Tunnels
The IDF is set to reduce forces in southern Lebanon following tunnel destruction, planning a new "Gray Line" security zone closer to the Israeli border.
Jerusalem, 5 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — According to Israeli media reports on Saturday, the IDF is preparing to reduce its forces in Southern Lebanon after destroying tunnels on the Ali al-Taher Ridge.
The defense establishment has been discussing a new security zone closer to the Israeli border. Under the plan, IDF forces would withdraw from parts of the current “Yellow Line,” including some areas north of the Litani River, and move to positions about three to four kilometers from the Israeli border.
The new deployment is being called the “Gray Line.” The IDF would build military posts along the line inside Lebanese territory and operate from them to protect Israeli communities along the border.
The plan has not yet been completed or approved by the government. However, preparations are underway for a significant reduction in IDF forces in Southern Lebanon.
