Jerusalem, 25 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Central Elections Committee is preparing for possible security disruptions during Tuesday’s elections for the 26th Knesset, including missile attacks and terrorist incidents. The preparations aim to ensure voting can proceed even under extreme security conditions, Israeli media reported Sunday.

Postponing the election would require legislation approved by at least 80 Knesset members. An alternative would allow Central Elections Committee Chairman Judge Noam Sohlberg to extend voting hours by up to 24 hours, potentially keeping polling stations open overnight or adding another voting day.

Israel is currently under a special home-front emergency status. Under special provisions for these elections, the committee chairman may consult with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) chief of staff to adjust polling arrangements and comply with civil defense requirements while preserving voters’ ability to exercise their democratic rights.
