Jerusalem, 26 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Voters traveling to polling stations in southern Israel during Tuesday’s elections could face dangerous conditions Tuesday as heavy rain and thunderstorms threaten to trigger flash floods, potentially closing roads across the Negev, Arava Valley and Dead Sea region.

The Israel Meteorological Service warned of a potentially severe flooding event on Oct. 27, with downpours expected to intensify around midday. Eilat and the southern Negev are among the areas forecast to be affected first, followed by the Arava and Dead Sea region as the rain spreads northward into the evening.

The storm could bring hail, lightning and powerful wind gusts. Rain is also expected to reach the Judean Hills and central Israel Tuesday evening. Authorities face the prospect of road closures in areas where normally dry streambeds can quickly become dangerous torrents.

The conditions are expected to persist into Wednesday, when temperatures will fall slightly below seasonal averages.

The change follows a relatively warm Monday, with temperatures remaining higher than usual for late October.
