Jerusalem, 27 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Colombia has officially requested to withdraw from The Hague Group, a bloc it co-chaired with South Africa, citing the body’s actions concerning Israel.
Government spokesperson Miller Soto stated the group was created to “attack Israel” and that Colombia rejects this approach. The withdrawal was announced by Foreign Minister Omar Bula Escobar on October 16, the same day Colombia opened its embassy in Jerusalem.
In recent years, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Prosecutors alleged that both committed “war crimes” in Gaza.
However, Colombia recently underwent a political transition, replacing its left-wing government with a right-wing administration led by Abelardo de la Espriella. The new president has already recognized the Golan Heights as sovereign Israeli territory, moved Colombia’s embassy to Jerusalem, and met with Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.
