Jerusalem, 4 November, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Dror Amos, who secured the sixth spot on Shas’s election slate and won a seat in the 26th Knesset, is expected to resign before the new parliament is sworn in next Tuesday.

If he steps down, former MK Moshe Abutbul, ranked seventh on the Shas list, is expected to take his place.

Amos was given a realistic position by Shas chairman Aryeh Deri, who had hoped his military background would help attract non-Haredi voters and broaden the party’s support. However, the party was reportedly disappointed that Amos failed to deliver the expected gains among that constituency, particularly as Shas suffered a sharp decline to just six seats in the election.

Internal criticism of his placement reportedly intensified after the strategy failed to produce the hoped-for political results. His anticipated departure would allow Abutbul to return to the Knesset before the new parliament begins its work.
