Jerusalem, 28 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The first families began moving into Geva Shomron in northern Samaria on Wednesday, one day after Israel’s Knesset elections.

The settlement is being established at the former Sa-Nur Paratroopers Brigade training base, evacuated in 2002 by the Ariel Sharon government.

Initial mobile homes have been installed, while trucks deliver equipment ahead of the families’ arrival. The founding families come from Ramat Gan and belong to a group of graduates of the Ramat Gan yeshiva, led by Rabbis Yehoshua Shapira and Ben-Zion Algazi.

A formal groundbreaking ceremony is expected later on Wednesday, attended by ministers, lawmakers, rabbis and public figures. Geva Shomron is part of a regional plan to establish 19 communities in northern Samaria, replacing four settlements evacuated by PM Sharon during the 2005 disengagement.

Regional Council head Yossi Dagan called the initiative “Our Zionist answer to expulsion,” declaring, “We are here to stay!”
