Israels First 25-Year Food Security Plan Targets Production, Resilience
Israel's Ministry of Agriculture unveils the National Food Security Plan 2050, aiming to boost local production and enhance resilience to future challenges.
Jerusalem, 7 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security on Monday unveiled the National Food Security Plan 2050, the country’s first long-term national plan addressing food security over the next 25 years.
Presented at a conference attended by Agriculture Minister Avi Dichter and Director General Oren Lavie, the plan aims to prepare Israel for population growth, climate change, water and land shortages and potential supply-chain disruptions. It calls for increasing local plant production by 33% by 2035 and 65% by 2050.
Measures include strengthening domestic agriculture and food production, promoting research and innovation, reducing food waste, diversifying import sources and ensuring food supplies during emergencies.
