Jerusalem, 17 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The IDF has formally ended the service of the intelligence officer who served with the Gaza Division during the October 7 Hamas attack, following a lengthy disciplinary and legal process.

The IDF said Thursday that the head of its Personnel Directorate decided to terminate the commitment of Lt. Col. A., effectively ending his military service. The decision followed findings from IDF investigations and professional assessments regarding failures in his performance before the attack.

In November 2025, Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir determined that Lt. Col. A. was among the commanders bearing command responsibility for the October 7 disaster. The officer had challenged the termination in court, but his petition was rejected in June, with the court ruling that the IDF had acted within its authority.

He may appeal the latest decision to the chief of staff.
