Jerusalem, 27 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel has completed its official accession to the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, joining global efforts to phase down hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)—potent greenhouse gases widely used in refrigeration and air conditioning.

Led by the Ministry of Environmental Protection alongside the Ministries of Justice, Economy, and Foreign Affairs, the government ratified the agreement following the deposit of its ratification instrument at the United Nations.

Under the binding international framework, Israel commits to reducing its domestic HFC consumption by 85% by 2036. Officials noted that the transition provides market certainty for local industry while accelerating the adoption of climate-friendly cooling technologies.

The amendment officially enters into force for Israel 90 days following its UN deposit.
