Jerusalem, 26 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Following decades of planning, an agreement has been signed to connect Ariel, located in the Binyamin region east of Tel Aviv, to the Shafdan system, Israel’s largest wastewater treatment facility, strengthening the city’s sewage infrastructure and supporting its future development.
The Water Authority said the connection represents a significant step in regulating the city’s wastewater treatment and long-term infrastructure planning, in line with Ariel’s expected population growth.
The initiative also carries environmental significance, helping reduce environmental hazards and protect the Mountain Aquifer, while enabling more efficient wastewater treatment and recycling of purified water for reuse, including in agriculture.
The connection is expected to provide Ariel with stable, long-term sewage infrastructure to address the city’s projected growth in the coming decades.
