Jerusalem, 17 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel and Kuwait are quietly moving toward closer ties, with unofficial contacts reportedly focused on shared security and intelligence concerns involving Iran and its regional proxies. Recent reports indicate a significant shift in Kuwait’s traditionally hardline opposition to normalization with Israel.
Against the backdrop of growing Iranian threats and missile and drone attacks by regional militias, Israel has reportedly provided Kuwait with intelligence and defensive assistance. Kuwait has also begun quietly considering changes to its strict anti-Israel boycott laws.
Israeli Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Yossi Shelley said this week that Kuwait could join the Abraham Accords within six months. Kuwaiti and other Arab military officials have also recently participated alongside IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir in U.S. Central Command security meetings focused on strengthening regional defense cooperation.
The process remains sensitive, however, amid strong domestic and parliamentary opposition to normalization with Israel.
