Jerusalem, 11 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Security forces foiled an attempted smuggling operation early Friday morning along the Jordanian border, seizing 36 weapons and arresting two suspects, both men in their 50s from Jericho in the Palestinian Authority.
The suspects were found carrying 34 handguns and two M-16 rifles and were transferred for questioning by the Central Unit of the Judea and Samaria District Police.
The operation followed intelligence indicating preparations to smuggle weapons in the eastern border area. Police from the Jordan Border Unit, operating under the Judea and Samaria District Central Unit, joined Border Police undercover fighters, soldiers from the Jordan Valley and Emekim Brigade, and the region’s Merol tracking unit.
The forces set up ambushes and deployed technological surveillance.
Police have heightened security preparations ahead of the holidays.
