Jerusalem, 4 November, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli security agencies have thwarted a major combined terror plot targeting Jerusalem’s Old City following the arrest of a 19-year-old resident of Beit Hanina.
A joint Shin Bet and Israel Police investigation revealed the suspect spent two years planning a multi-stage attack.
The plot involved detonating an explosive device at Lions’ Gate before entering the Temple Mount complex to shoot Jewish worshipers and police officers. Investigators determined the suspect surveyed security camera placements, sought firearms on the dark web, and trained in hand-to-hand combat.
Authorities stated the suspect confessed during interrogation, citing online footage of the October 7 attacks as his primary motivation. Severe security-related indictments have been filed against him in court.
