Yair Golan: Arab Party Joining Next Government Is Right, Proper and Democratic
Yair Golan stated an Arab party joining Israel's next government is "natural, right, proper and democratic," aiming for appropriate Arab representation.
Jerusalem, 27 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Democrats party chairman Yair Golan said an Arab party could join Israel’s next government, calling such participation “natural, right, proper and democratic.” Golan said his party was working to ensure appropriate Arab representation and argued that Arab participation would reflect Israel’s democratic character.
His comments came after Yashar chairman Gadi Eisenkot said that the Islamist Ra’am party would not join a government he leads, citing conditions including recognition of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state and opposition to Hamas.
Golan has previously advocated including at least one Arab party in a future coalition. In May, he said that anyone willing to accept the government’s basic guidelines could be a partner, specifically mentioning Ra’am chairman Mansour Abbas.
The remarks followed a meeting of the leaders of opposition bloc parties Saturday night.
