Jerusalem, 12 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The petition of the “Constitutional” association against the Shas (Sephardic ultra-orthodox) party for publishing meetings with public employees was rejected out of hand.
The petition was filed following publications in the Shas faction’s WhatsApp group, documenting meetings held by MK Aryeh Deri with a number of individuals who hold or were elected to public positions, including: the incoming director general of the rabbinical courts, elected city rabbis, and the chairman of a religious council.
The petitioner claimed that these publications constitute the use of public employees as a public asset for election propaganda purposes, in violation of Section 2A of the Elections Law (Methods of Propaganda). The petitioner requested an order to remove the publications and prevent similar publications in the future.
The chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Deputy President of the Supreme Court, Justice Noam Solberg, ruled that the petition should be dismissed out of hand, even without resorting to the respondents’ response, due to several key threshold grounds.
