Jerusalem, 17 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s High Court of Justice unanimously ruled that the real-time transmission of digital data from polling stations identifying which citizens have voted is illegal and violates privacy law, striking down a Central Elections Committee decision that had permitted the practice, associated with apps like “Elector.”
The court found the committee lacked explicit legal authorization to approve the practice, and that the practice breaches Israel’s Privacy Protection Law.
Justice Minister Yariv Levin accused the court of “inventing new rules” to suppress turnout and undermine election integrity.
MK Amit Halevi warned the decision would hinder parties’ ability to mobilize supporters.
The Religious Zionism Party said in response that the High Court’s decision was intended to undermine right-wing parties’ ability to mobilize their supporters to the polls. The party accused the court of attempting to bring down the right-wing government through “blatant interference” in the electoral process.
