Ben Gvir to Islamic Jihad Prisoners: Israeli Hostages Didnt Get Shampoo
Israeli Minister Ben Gvir told Islamic Jihad prisoners their conditions were reduced to the minimum, mirroring the harsh treatment of Israeli hostages.
Jerusalem, 30 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir recently visited Damon Prison, where he met commanders and officers before touring a wing holding female security prisoners, including Palestinian Islamic Jihad members. The prisoners complained about stricter conditions and revoked privileges.
Ben Gvir responded: “Our hostages did not have shampoo, and they did not have decent conditions. I am proud that we succeeded in reducing the terrorists’ prison conditions to the bare minimum. The summer camps in the prisons are over.”
The tougher conditions have drawn international criticism. The UK, France, Canada, the Netherlands and Italy summoned Israeli diplomats. Italy asked the EU to consider sanctions against Ben Gvir, while Poland called for him to be barred from entering the country over the treatment of Polish citizens.
The UN condemned the policy as dangerous and dehumanizing. Germany criticized Ben Gvir’s rhetoric and actions.
“We are not apologizing,” Ben Gvir said. “Terrorists will receive only the minimum required by law.”
