Education Ministry Ready for New School Year
The Israeli Education Ministry has issued new guidelines for the 2026-27 school year, including cellphone bans and updated safety rules.
Jerusalem, 30 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Education Ministry has published its guidelines for the 2026–27 school year, which begins Tuesday, September 1.
Students will not be allowed to use cellphones during school breaks. Phones must remain turned off and stored in backpacks or lockers throughout the school day.
Middle and High schools will be banned from holding classes before the regular school day. Classes will begin at 8 a.m., although Religious schools may start earlier for prayer.
The ministry is also setting safety rules. Backpacks should not weigh more than 10% of a child’s body weight. Schools must help younger students adjust during their first days, while parents are urged to accompany young children and follow pedestrian safety rules.
The ministry has also set limits on parent payments for school trips, cultural programs and end-of-year celebrations.
