Jerusalem, 14 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Central District Court in Lod sentenced Shelly Shanker, a caregiver at Netanya’s “Transparent Kindergarten,” to seven years in prison for abusing and assaulting 12 toddlers aged seven to eighteen months.
Shanker was convicted of 42 offenses, including nine counts of abusing a helpless minor and 33 counts of assault causing actual injury.
The abuse occurred over a month in May and June 2024 and was captured on security cameras. It included kicking and slapping the children, pulling their hair, throwing them onto floors and mattresses, and tossing them with one hand while they slept.
The court also ordered Shanker to pay NIS 300,000 ($98,000) in compensation to the families. Parents described lasting emotional problems among the children, including tantrums, sleep disturbances, and eating disorders.
Prosecutors had sought a 10-year sentence and are considering an appeal.
