Jerusalem, 6 November, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Eastern Jerusalem’s first public swimming pool has opened in Beit Hanina as part of a new community sports center built with an investment of approximately $20 million.
The 5,000-square-meter complex includes an indoor swimming pool, a toddler pool, a teaching pool, gyms and activity studios.
The project was developed through a partnership involving the Jerusalem Municipality, the Jerusalem and Heritage Ministry, the national lottery and the Jerusalem Foundation, with support from the Mandel Foundation and other donors.
The center is intended primarily for the residents of Beit Hanina and Shuafat, but will eventually be open to all eastern Jerusalem residents. It is also expected to create dozens of local jobs in management, coaching, lifeguarding, maintenance, and other services.
Community officials said the facility will provide much-needed swimming instruction and recreational opportunities, particularly for children and teenagers.
