Jerusalem, 16 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — A seven-story building in western Gaza City collapsed overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday, killing at least 14 Palestinians, including five children, and injuring 14 others, according to Gaza’s Civil Defense, with roughly 100 people still believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
The building, previously damaged by Israeli airstrikes during the war, had housed at least 10 displaced families.
Rescue efforts, hampered by a lack of proper equipment, involved UN agencies and Egyptian aid workers. UNDP’s Gaza office head said workers were digging with bare hands in places.
According to Reuters, roughly 2,000 damaged structures across Gaza still house displaced families, with the UN warning some 400 are at risk of collapse. Civil Defense official Raed al-Dahshan said rescuers still hear voices beneath the debris, keeping hope alive for survivors.
