Jerusalem, 14 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Retired Police Brig. Gen. Eran Kamin, former acting head of the National Fraud Investigations Unit, testified Monday in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s trial that he initiated a private meeting with journalist Ben Caspit to obtain and assess intelligence concerning the Netanyahu family.
Kamin said the café meeting led him to ask Caspit to appear at the police unit and provide an open statement, which later became part of the lawsuit against Netanyahu.
He acknowledged he had not received written approval from the attorney general for the meeting, saying such approval was unnecessary for an initial assessment.
Kamin confirmed the meeting was neither recorded nor formally documented. Asked why there was no memorandum, Kamin said he believed he had made notes but that “these events are not memorable.”
The testimony supports a key defense argument that police took significant investigative steps before obtaining required authorization.
