Jerusalem, 31 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Members of the Degel HaTorah faction of the Haredi United Torah Judaism are expected to meet with their spiritual leaders Saturday night to receive blessings ahead of the new Knesset term. Behind closed doors, they are also expected to discuss supporting Gadi Eisenkot, potentially marking a significant political shift.
According to Israeli media reports, Rabbi Dov Lando, the faction’s spiritual leader, instructed party lawmakers to open discussions with opposition-bloc parties to explore political options, primarily efforts to secure the status of yeshiva students.
United Torah Judaism officials are reportedly examining the possibility of providing outside support to a minority government, potentially headed by Eisenkot, while abstaining from key votes rather than formally joining the coalition.
For now, Degel HaTorah has made no final decision about which candidate to recommend to the president, emphasizing that all options remain open.
