Jerusalem, 29 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Shin Bet security agency is investigating suspicions that at least two foreign countries, in addition to Qatar, attempted to interfere in the October 27 Knesset elections through improper financing, according to Israeli media reports published Thursday.

Investigators are examining whether foreign actors funneled money into efforts intended to influence the election results. Other reports have identified Turkey as among the countries potentially under scrutiny, although the allegations have not been conclusively established.

Central Elections Committee Chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg asked Shin Bet chief David Zini to investigate the allegations urgently and submit findings within a week, following intelligence gathered by the agency and complaints from Likud.

The Shin Bet stressed that its investigation originated in independent intelligence-gathering efforts to detect foreign interference, not political directives. The probe targets suspected unlawful activity and does not implicate any broader community.
