Jerusalem, 29 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Mossad may be brought into an investigation into suspected Qatari interference in Israel’s October 27 election, according to Israeli media reports on Thursday. The allegations concern claims that foreign funds were used to boost Arab voter turnout through illegal means, potentially influencing the election results.
Central Elections Committee Chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg has instructed Shin Bet chief David Zini to investigate suspicions of improper foreign funding and election bribery, requesting findings within a week. The allegations emerged after Arab parties secured a combined 19 Knesset seats, potentially giving them decisive influence in coalition negotiations.
Reports have suggested that some funds may have moved through channels previously associated with terrorist financing. However, the allegations remain under investigation, and Qatar has categorically denied interfering in Israel’s elections. No evidence has established that the election results were systematically compromised.
