Jerusalem, 17 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel and Morocco have formally agreed to upgrade their diplomatic missions to full embassies and appoint ambassadors, marking a significant step in bilateral relations. The agreement was reached during a trilateral meeting in New York between Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz.
The move will replace the liaison offices established after Israel and Morocco restored relations in 2020 under the Abraham Accords with full diplomatic missions.
The countries also agreed to expand civilian and economic cooperation. Direct flights are expected to increase, with Royal Air Maroc reportedly preparing to resume service to Israel in the coming weeks. The sides also committed to signing investment-protection and double-taxation agreements by the end of 2026. Senior officials are expected to make reciprocal visits in the coming months.
