Jerusalem, 15 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — In coordination with international bodies, Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) has intensified a large-scale winterization initiative for Gaza, facilitating over 71,000 tents—including 8,000 this past week—alongside 7,300 trucks of winter clothing, blankets, and hygiene supplies.
The multi-sector response targets urgent sanitation and healthcare needs ahead of seasonal weather. Key infrastructure support includes deploying eight sewage vacuum trucks for the ICRC, draining displaced persons’ camps, and restoring municipal water networks.
Additionally, COGAT approved 7,500 tetanus vaccine doses for UNICEF, three International Medical Corps mobile clinics, and critical fuel shipments to maintain hospital operations, reflecting ongoing operational cooperation with UN agencies and global humanitarian partners.
At the same time, COGAT is facilitating the advancement of projects by the international community to strengthen WASH infrastructure, with an emphasis on sewage drainage operations and improvements to water transmission networks.
In the past week alone, the entry of 8 sewage vacuum trucks for the Red Cross was approved, and sewage was drained from numerous systems in camps for displaced persons throughout the Gaza Strip.
