Jerusalem, 21 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Shin Bet chief David Zini has ordered renewed and expanded evidence collection and investigations into Israeli Arabs involved in violence during Operation Guardian of the Walls in 2021. Security officials say additional measures may be possible in some cases to ensure those responsible are brought to justice, Israeli media reported Wednesday.
Some incidents have remained unsolved, and not all suspects have been apprehended, according to the reports.
The 2021 violence included attacks on civilians and security forces, arson, property damage and roadblocks. According to reported figures, indictments were filed in 108 incidents against 239 defendants for aggravated offenses involving terrorism or racist motives. Of those charged, 85% were Arab and 15% Jewish.
The unrest began during Ramadan amid tensions in eastern Jerusalem before spreading nationwide. According to Justice Ministry data, by 2022, fewer than 100 defendants had received prison sentences.
