Jerusalem, 25 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel is advancing plans for a major highway linking Samaria with the Jordan Valley, creating a direct east-west transportation corridor across the region. The project envisions expanding Highway 5 eastward from the central Israeli road network through Ariel and Tapuach Junction toward Petza’el Junction and the Jordan Valley Highway.
The initiative, promoted by Transportation Minister Miri Regev and Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan, is expected to improve travel times, ease congestion and strengthen road safety for residents and commuters. The planned investment totals approximately NIS 2 billion ($620 million), including the expansion of Highway 505 between Ariel and Tapuach Junction.
Supporters describe the project as strategically important, connecting Israel’s Mediterranean coastal region with the Jordan Valley through Samaria. The highway is also intended to support future population growth and improve access to communities across the region.
