445 People Killed in Traffic Crashes Across Israel in Past Year
Israel recorded 445 traffic deaths in the past Jewish year, with private vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and motorcyclists being the most affected.
Jerusalem, 6 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel recorded 445 traffic-related deaths during the past Jewish year, according to Israel Transportation Managers, a professional organization representing transportation managers nationwide.
Data from the National Road Safety Authority and Or Yarok (Green Light) Association show fatal crashes declined slightly from last year, but road-safety professionals remain concerned over the persistently high number of deaths and injuries.
Private vehicle occupants accounted for about 155 deaths, followed by pedestrians with 110 and motorcycle and scooter riders with 92. Heavy-vehicle crashes claimed another 88 lives, while 32 people were killed while riding bicycles or electric scooters.
About 60% of fatalities occurred on interurban roads, with speeding a major factor.
The High Holidays begin with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which starts at sundown on Sept. 11.
