Jerusalem, 8 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Jerusalem police have completed their investigation into a 52-year-old resident of the Old City suspected of deliberately setting fire to a sukkah in the Agripas Street area of central Jerusalem during the Sukkot holiday.

The investigation began after police received a report about the sukkah fire. Rapid operational and investigative efforts by Lev HaBira Station, assisted by Jerusalem District surveillance officers, indicated that the fire was allegedly set deliberately and was motivated by racism, police said.

Investigators identified the suspect and quickly arrested him. After authorities gathered evidence linking him to the incident, his detention was repeatedly extended by the court.

On Wednesday, prosecutors submitted a statement of intent to indict, indicating that an indictment is expected to be filed against the suspect in the coming days.
