Jerusalem, 9 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Protesters confronted Yashar Party slate member Yoram Cohen at a campaign event in Mitzpe Ramon in southern Israel, accusing the former Shin Bet chief of involvement in the torture of Jewish suspects in the 2015 Duma village arson case.

According to Israeli media, activists from the “Justice for Amiram” campaign protested Cohen’s candidacy for the Knesset on the Yashar party slate, carrying signs reading, “Anyone who tortured Jews is unfit for the Knesset” and “Torturing Jews is not Yashar (honest).”

The protests concern the interrogation of Amiram Ben-Uliel and an accused minor in connection with the Duma arson attack. The activists argued that their confessions were obtained through torture by Cohen’s Shin Bet interrogators.

Yashar candidate Tal Ohana spoke with the demonstrators, saying she trusted Cohen and the judicial system. She acknowledged disagreements over the facts but expressed confidence that the judges had conducted their work properly.
